Skeptics of Global Warming Met in London
28 January, 2005
As BBC's Duncan Bain reported, a conference to question if global warming will have a negative effect on the global climate was held in London on 27 January. Its organizer appeared to be the British "Scientific Alliance" dedicated to discuss environmental challenges. One of the speakers was Richard Lindzen, who is professor of atmospheric science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As the BBC reported, the "Scientific Alliance" hoped to address issues it feared would not be addressed by a conference on climate change from 1 to 3 February, supported by the UK government.
According to the BBC, Dr Benny Peiser, another speaker at the London meeting, said that he is "concerned" that the second conference "will ignore key questions, particularly regarding the alarmist nature of future predictions. - It's important for people to know there are eminent scientists who don't share this viewpoint."
Another speaker at the London conference was Professor Fred Singer, a former director of the US Weather Satellite Service. Asked by the BBC about global warming, he outlined "It's certainly not a cause for alarm. The greenhouse warming from increased gas emissions is, as far as we can tell, insignificant. - It's unlikely to be appreciable even a century from now, and we can easily adapt to it. - The IPCC's predictions are based entirely on models, not observations. You must either improve the models or prove the observations are wrong."
