Dr. Roy Spencer delivers global warming lecture at University of Helsinki

On the morning of Saturday May 16, 2009, Dr. Roy Spencer, a principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and a collaborator with CFACT Europe, presented a talk on global warming in the main building of the University of Helsinki. His was the first talk given at a yearly meeting of climate ‘realists’ in Finland, and it was coordinated by Dr. Boris Winterhalter.

Dr. Spencer’s presentation focused on recent satellite evidence that computerized climate models project far too much warming for the future. Those models mistakenly respond to the small amount of direct warming from extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by reducing cloud cover on the Earth. That, in turn, amplifies the warming…an example of "positive feedback". Out of the 21 climate models tracked by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the differences in warming exhibited by those models is mostly the result of different strengths of positive cloud feedback.

European Institute for Climate and Energy holds its annual meeting in Berlin:
Discussion focuses on the impacts of the solar cycle on climate and carbon dioxide on crop yields

On April 17th and 18th members of the European Institute for Climate and Energy gathered at Humboldt University in Berlin for their annual meeting and to discuss the latest developments in climate research and policy. Participants agreed that the current climate debate serves the interests of energy companies and the makers of solar panel and wind turbines, but neglects sound science.

CFACT Europe issues new book – "The Climate Hysteria - What Is It All About?"

CFACT Europe’s Senior Advisor Michael Limburg recently released its latest publication entitled "The Climate Hysteria – What Is It All About? The New Nairobi Report on Climate Change, Climate Hoax and Climate Madness "

This provocative book examines the latest political developments surrounding the issue of climate change and their relationship to the current state of climate science. It begins by exploring the question of whether there has been any substantial warming outside the range of natural variability (answer: no), continues by examining whether the alleged increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide over the last 100 years is a principle cause of global warming (answer: no), discusses the possible impact of current climate policies on economics and the demography (answer: dangerous), and concludes by discussing whether global warming would be a more of a bane or benefit if it should be proven true (answer: it depends!).

Princeton professor fired by Gore now ridicules warming fears: 'What used to be science has turned into a cult'

Excerpt: "Physics professor William Happer GS ’64 has some tough words for scientists who believe that carbon dioxide is causing global warming. "This is George Orwell. This is the ‘Germans are the master race. The Jews are the scum of the earth.’ It’s that kind of propaganda," Happer, the Cyrus Fogg Brackett Professor of Physics, said in an interview. "Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. Every time you exhale, you exhale air that has 4 percent carbon dioxide. To say that that’s a pollutant just boggles my mind. What used to be science has turned into a cult."

Will the U.N. Chill Out on Climate Change?

10,000 people from 86 countries have descended upon Poznan, Poland for yet-another United Nations meeting on climate change. This time, it’s the annual confab of the nations that signed the original U.N. climate treaty in Rio in 1992. That instrument gave rise to the infamous 1996 Kyoto Protocol on global warming, easily the greatest failure in the history of environmental diplomacy.

Kyoto was supposed to reduce global emissions of carbon dioxide below 1990 levels during the period 2008-2012. But since it was signed, the atmospheric concentration of this putative pollutant continued to rise, pretty much at the same rate it did before Kyoto. (Even if the world had lived up to the letter of the Kyoto law, it would have exerted an influence on global temperature that would have been too small to measure.)

The purpose of the Poznan meeting is to work out some type of framework that goes “Beyond Kyoto.” After completely failing in its first attempt to internationally limit carbon dioxide emissions, the U.N. will propose reductions far greater than those called for by Kyoto. Kyoto failed because it was too expensive, so anything “beyond” will cost much more.

Wind farm threatens Albanian paradise

Continent’s potentially biggest onshore wind-farm could wreak havoc with unspoiled coastline — and may be breaking the law.

Albania’s government risks wrecking one of Europe’s last unspoiled environments – and breaking its own laws – by allowing an Italian company, acting through an Albanian subsidiary, to build a wind farm on a coastal nature reserve and on part of a national park.

The government has transferred more than 97 hectares of land to Italy’s Moncada Energy Group, which through its Albanian subsidiary, Enpower Albania, aims to build a 500 megawatt wind farm in the south of the country. (...)

Global warming tax hikes heading your way

Deficient computer models drive policies that destroy jobs, profits and family budgets

Paul Driessen

America is in the throes of a major housing and financial downturn, soaring food and energy costs, rising unemployment and near recession. But legislators, bureaucrats and presidential candidates are falling all over themselves to restrict fossil fuel use, advance climate change legislation – and thereby increase energy prices, oil imports, and costs for families and businesses. more

Dear Dr. Pachauri and others associated with IPCC,

We are writing to you and others associated with the IPCC position – that man’s CO2 is a driver of global warming and climate change – to ask that you now in view of the evidence retract support from the current IPCC position [as in footnote 1] and admit that there is no observational evidence in measured data going back 22,000 years or even millions of years that CO2 levels (whether from man or nature) have driven or are driving world temperatures or climate change.

If you believe there is evidence of the CO2 driver theory in the available data please present a graph of it. We draw your attention to three observational refutations of the IPCC position (and note there are more). Icecore data from the ACIA (Arctic Climate Impact Assessment) shows that temperatures have fallen since around 4,000 years ago (the Bronze Age Climate Optimum) while CO2 levels have risen, yet this graphical data was not included in the IPCC Summary for Policymakers (Fig. SPM1 Feb07) which graphed the CO2 rise. more

Still feeding the world

Norman Borlaug just turned 94 – and is still going strong

Paul Driessen

During the “Eat This” segment of their docu-comedy series BS, Penn Jillette beat Teller in a round of their “Greatest Person in History” card game. Penn needed just one card: Norman Borlaug.

This Iowa farm boy and University of Minnesota agriculture graduate lived Thomas Edison’s maxim to the fullest. “Invention,” Edison once remarked, “is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.” Dr. Borlaug did most of his 99% in the sweltering fields of Africa, India, Mexico and Pakistan.

At 94, and despite having cancer, the “Father of the Green Revolution” is still “an Energizer Bunny,” his daughter Jeanie says. He serves as a consultant, attends occasional conferences, and graciously let my daughter interview him for a high school paper. more

German government cancels biofuel plans

Fears repercussions from angry motorists

“In the pantheon of well-intentioned governmental policies gone awry, massive ethanol biofuel production may go down as one of the biggest blunders in history. An unholy alliance of environmentalists, agribusiness, biofuel corporations and politicians has been touting ethanol as the cure to all our environmental ills, when in fact it may be doing more harm than good. An array of unintended consequences is wreaking havoc on the economy, food production and, perhaps most ironically, the environment.“

Cinnamon Stillwell, San Francisco Chronicle
April 2, 2008

Berlin -- The German government officially reversed plans to impose controversial legislation that would have increased the mandatory ethanol and renewable additives content of gasoline and diesel to 10 percent, a law similar to the US Energy Policy Act of 2005. The government’s rescission was based on fears that imposing the new requirement would boost fuel prices substantially and provoke the ire of some 3 million German motorists.

"This is a truly historic event, the first international conference devoted to answering questions overlooked by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change." said Joseph Bast, President of the Heartland, a Chicago-based think tank, at the opening of the event.

And he continued: "We're asking questions such as:

  • how reliable are the data used to document the recent warming trend?
  • how much of the modern warming is natural, and how much is likely the result of human activities?
  • how reliable are the computer models used to forecast future climate conditions? and
  • is reducing emissions the best or only response to possible climate change?

Sick and deadly disease control programs

Too many of them perpetuate disease and cost lives

Paul Driessen

If an accident kills wildlife or people, punishment is meted out and restitution made. A host of regulators, lawyers, judges, activists, journalists and politicians help bring the wrongdoers to justice.

But when it comes to policies and programs that sicken and kill millions of parents and children a year, these ethics cops and eco warriors are not just silent. They refuse to hold government agencies and activist groups to the same honesty and accountability standards they apply to for-profit companies. They even oppose programs that would reduce disease and save lives. more

CFACT-Book Enters Top 20 of Book Charts

For the first time ever, a book supported by CFACT Europe entered the book charts. Last week, Edgar Gaertner's "Eco-Nihilism: A Critique of Political Ecology" appeared on #20 of the BOD book charts in non-fiction. Even better: in this week's charts, the book defended its position.

"The example of Edgar Gaertner's book shows that the German readers are waiting for books promoting a more honest approach towards the environment" says Dr Holger Thuss, Executive Director of CFACT Europe. "We at CFACT Europe are very happy about that."

The best selling lists of BOD are released every Monday. There are two separate categories, one for fictional and one for non-fictional books. The Hamburg-based BOD GmbH is Europe's largest print-on-demand company.

CFACT Europe issues new book - "Eco-nihilism. A critique of Political Ecology" challenges environmentalist credo

In the 1970s and 80s, environmental policies rose in prominence as environmentalists scored many political victories. But their successes in cleaning rivers and air pollution were unfortunately followed by an environmental populism that led to an intellectual and economic downward spiral, often driven by fears of approaching ecological cataclysm. This devolution of the environmental movement is what German journalist and environment expert Edgar Gaertner has recently written about in his new book "Eco-nihilism: A critique of a Political Ecology."  more

In 2005 the EU created an ambitious EU-wide Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) to tackle the alleged growing threat from global warming.

Welcome!

This is the website of the European Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT Europe). As part of the international CFACT-network we are active on all continents.

We are a non-governmental and non-partisan organization dedicated to the improvement of our environment, our public services and to efficient strategies to overcome poverty in Europe and beyond.

However - at our website you will NOT find the usual doomsday scenarios of conventional environmentalism. Actually, we are tired of these scenarios.

Why? Pessimism and extremism are destructive. We believe that there is a constructive solution for every basic human problem - and that these solutions should be responsible, ethical, conventional and based on the findings of free, unprejudiced scientific research.

Freedom, market economy and democracy provide sufficient means to feed the hungry and to decrease pollution. And many times, they ARE the means.

This is in very brief how we understand a "constructive tomorrow". More information on what we belief you will find in our Mission Statement. Also don't forget to check the publications section.

Furthermore, you will find sufficient and updated information on what we want, what we do and who we are in all other sections of this website.

Since we believe in free and open debates, our website contains articles that do not necessarily reflect the opinion of all members of our network, but are presenting interesting views often underrepresented.

We are also grateful for any comment, question and support.

Enjoy reading!
